Artificial intelligence (AI) is the idea of machines being able to perform tasks that require human intelligence. Today, AI is a hot topic in the tech world, and it’s important to understand what it is, how it works, and why it matters.

What Is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence is a field of computer science that focuses on creating systems that behave like humans. These systems are often called “intelligent agents” or “artificial intelligence.” This is different than machine learning (ML), which refers to methods for getting computers to learn from data without being explicitly programmed with rules about how they should learn. In contrast to ML, AI encompasses all methods used by machines to learn from data without being specifically programmed with rules about what they will learn.

How Does It Work?

Artificial intelligence uses machine learning techniques to get computers to perform tasks that humans can do easily but would be too complicated for a computer program without human input. For example, an AI system might be able to recognize images on its own based on their content—it might recognize cats, dogs, and other animals by their appearance rather than having been explicitly taught by humans what each animal looks like

The concept of artificial intelligence (AI) has been around for decades, but it’s only recently that we’ve been able to build a machine that can think like a human. AI is the next step in the evolution of technology—and it’s changing how we think about everything from how we communicate with each other, to how we work, to what our future will look like.

So what exactly is artificial intelligence? It’s basically the idea that machines can do things that humans do—like learn, reason, and make decisions—that were previously thought impossible. The best example of an AI application is Siri on your iPhone: she can answer questions using your voice and make recommendations based on what you tell her.

But AI isn’t just useful for helping us make decisions; it’s also used in day-to-day life as personal assistants who can help us schedule appointments, order items online, or even tell jokes or perform impersonations based on our input.

Why do we need AI?

It’s easy to see why we need AI: there are so many problems in the world that need solving, and we’re not going to solve them on our own. We don’t have enough time, money or people to take care of everything ourselves. But if we can get machines to do it for us, then we’ll be able to focus our attention where it matters most—on solving those problems that are most important for humanity.
